ASA says claim is misleading because dating site cannot prove it provides a greater chance of finding lasting love. Upholding a complaint about a billboard ad on London Underground, the Advertising Standards Authority ASA said the claim was misleading because eHarmony could not prove its service provided a greater chance of finding lasting love. The ASA said the words suggested scientific studies had demonstrated that the website offered users a significantly greater chance of finding lasting love than if they did not use the service.

It said there was no proof people were any more likely to meet partners through the eHarmony website than by other means, online or offline, such as social networking, at work, through friends or in a bar or club. David Lipsey, joint chair of the all-party parliamentary group on statistics, who lodged the complaint, welcomed the ASA ruling. It uses a closely guarded compatibility matching algorithm to pair users, and requires them to complete lengthy relationship questionnaires to determine their personality traits, values, interests and other factors.

In its defence, it told the ASA the algorithm was based on data collected from more than 50, married couples in 23 different countries, which it said resulted in statistical models yielding cut-off thresholds for scores indicating a high probability of successful relationships if married. The dating service submitted copies of two published studies that reported higher levels of marital satisfaction for couples who met through eHarmony than any other offline or online methods.

But the ASA found that the results of the studies did not justify using the words that were the subject of the complaint. Therefore, neither study provided insight into the likelihood of the website finding users lasting love compared to users who did not use the service. Online dating.

The USP: As one of the longest standing dating sites on the internet, The Guardian’s Soulmates service doesn’t need to prove its credentials.

The new app Lex was born out of Personals, a photo-free Instagram service that emulated traditional newspaper ads. The pair first started talking on Instagram in January, through a popular account that offered a contemporary version of traditional newspaper personal ads. Owens, a year-old artist and professor, had never had much luck on dating apps, but the Personals page was different. It did not use photos, but instead featured a long list of bios of queer and trans people looking for internet friends, lovers or partners across the globe.

Personals, too, is undergoing a fundamental change. The service, which has posted roughly 10, ads since its creation in , ended its Instagram service this week and on Thursday officially launched as an app.

An adult guardianship is used when an individual is impaired by mental illness, mental deficiency, physical illness or disability, chronic use of drugs, chronic intoxication or other cause so that they lack sufficient understanding or capacity to make or communicate informed decisions and need someone to make such decisions for them.

MCL The Court must give written information to a prospective petitioner for adult guardianship about alternatives to appointment of a full guardian. These alternatives include appointment of a limited guardian or conservator, a patient advocate designation, a do-not-resuscitate designation and a Durable Power of Attorney. The proper venue place to file a petition for guardianship is the Probate Court in the county where the adult resides or is found.

If a court of competent jurisdiction has ordered placement of an individual in an institution, venue is also in the county where that court is located. A checklist of forms for petitioning for guardianship and fee information is listed below. The law sets forth priorities for appointment of adult guardians. If no person having priority is available or willing to serve as guardian, the Court may appoint any competent adult, including a professional guardian.

A guardianship petition may include requests for various types of relief including an order preventing a person from moving the adult in question from their home or facility or that visitation be set. The petition must either request that full guardianship or limited guardianship be ordered, and must specify the scope of the limited guardianship if requested.

First and foremost, whatever data you explicitly share with a dating app or site, the platform now has it. And they might be screening them with AI too; Bumble uses such tech to preemptively screen and block images that might be lewd. But a dating platform can also have access to data about your activity on social media platforms if you connect them to your dating profile.

And these platforms work with third-party services that can also receive information about you. Your data could also be shared with third-party companies that your dating app might work with for the purpose of studying their site usage and to help target ads. Some of these dating-sharing processes are questionable. Also, neither Grindr nor Bumble responded to our request for comment by the time of publication. Dating app accused of flouting GDPR law by passing personal data to ad firms but report says problem is endemic. Twitter has suspended Grindr from its ad platform after a study claimed the dating app was passing significant amounts of private information to advertisers without explicit consent from users.

Of the 10 apps examined in depth by the NCC, which included period trackers and dating apps, Grindr stood out as being significantly problematic. Grindr told users that they needed to check with partners to find out how their data was used, but only named one such partner, MoPub, an ad network owned by Twitter.

Instead of using apps, more people are finding connections in plain, typewriter-text ads that slow the dating process. I n , there seems to be a hankering for nostalgic things. Young people love knitting , children are asking for record players for Christmas , and presidents have gone back to the good, old-fashioned business of building walls. You may know the format: short, candid bios written by people looking for love, displayed in public places such as newspapers. Today, of course, they appear on Instagram and Twitter rather than at the back of the morning paper.

They gesture towards simplicity, with adverts displayed in typewriter text on plain backgrounds, no photo necessary. But they have the sort of cult-like following only social media can amass. Pared-back pages, such as the Red Yenta personals page on Twitter which helps socialists find politically like-minded lovers , get submissions from across the world, and a personals page for queer people of color is also flourishing online. Something about this seems antithetical to the 2. Why revert to a plain text and longer wait times when you can find the most available person right here, right now?

But there clearly is an appetite for it. So much, in fact, that when year-old Kelly Rakowski first set up an online document asking people to send in submissions for a personal ads page , she was overwhelmed. Her page became so popular she had to bring on interns to help her manage the stream of submissions.
